The North East Recreation Commission is a joint effort of the North East School District, North East Borough and North East Township to promote healthy recreation.
For many years, the North East Recreation Commission (NERC) has been a coalition of volunteers who plan and implement recreational activates for children in North East. These activities will usually consist of a sport, played once or twice a week, for a few weeks at a time. Most of our activities are for kids currently residing in North East and usually in grades K - 5.
Recently, the NERC has arranged these activities:
-
Indoor / Outdoor Soccer - typically played in the North East Intermediate Gym or on school grounds. Coaches provide introductions to soccer skills / team concepts and use age-appropriate balls. Teams of 5-7 will play against each other.
-
Basketball - usually played in one of the NE School Gyms. Coaches provide introductions to basic basketball skills skills / team concepts.
-
Swim Team - introduces competitive swimming to NE children and open to all swimming skill types. Meets are in the NE School pool or in pools in Erie County.
-
Flag Football - all the fun of football without the contact, usually played in Heard Park.
-
Bird Watching - learning more about the birds of Erie County with the Audubon Society.

And we are always looking for more activities, if you have any ideas, let us know!
